Elden Ring Stat Soft Caps & Optimal Build Allocation Guide (2026)

By Shihab Uddin Updated August 3, 2026 6 min read

💡 Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): Soft Cap Reference Table

In Elden Ring, stat soft caps represent the point where investing additional attribute points yields significantly reduced returns. Allocating points past soft caps wastes rune levels that could improve secondary stats.

1. Vigor Soft Caps (Health Pool)

Vigor soft caps occur at level 40 and level 60. Points invested in Vigor yield increasing HP returns up to level 40, capping at 1,450 total HP. Between level 40 and 60, HP growth slows to ~22 HP per point, reaching 1,900 HP at level 60. Beyond level 60, Vigor grants only 2 to 3 HP per point, making level 60 the mandatory hard cap for all meta PvP (Level 125–150) and DLC builds.

2. Strength Soft Caps & Two-Handed Multiplier Math

Strength weapon scaling soft caps occur at level 50 and level 80, but two-handing shifts the cap to level 54. When holding a weapon with two hands in Elden Ring, the game engine multiplies your base Strength attribute by 1.5x.

• 54 Base Strength × 1.5 (Two-Handing) = 81 Effective Strength (Hits 80 Soft Cap)

• 66 Base Strength × 1.5 (Two-Handing) = 99 Effective Strength (Hits Hard Engine Cap)

Because 54 Strength while two-handing reaches the 80 Strength soft cap, pure heavy builds can save 26 attribute points for Vigor or Endurance.

3. Intelligence & Faith Soft Caps (Sorceries & Incantations)

Intelligence and Faith have split soft caps depending on whether you are scaling melee weapon Attack Power (AR) or Catalyst Spell Scaling.

  • Magic/Sacred Weapon AR: Soft caps at 20, 50, and 80 Strength/Dex/Int/Faith.
  • Standard Staff/Seal Spell Scaling: Soft caps at 60 and 80. High-tier catalysts like the Carian Regal Scepter and Erdtree Seal gain their highest scaling gains between level 60 and 80.
  • Hybrid Catalysts (e.g. Prince of Death's Staff, Golden Order Seal): Soft cap at 45/45 split between Int and Faith.

4. Arcane & Status Effect Soft Caps (Bleed, Poison, Madness)

Arcane status buildup soft caps at level 45, while physical damage soft caps at level 50 and 80. If your weapon has inherent Arcane scaling (such as Rivers of Blood or an Occult Infused weapon), Arcane increases both status buildup per hit and physical AR.

To optimize Bleed and Frost builds, cap Arcane at 45 for maximum status build-up efficiency per point invested.
