How to Use the Running Pace Calculator

The Running Pace Calculator is a versatile tool for runners of all levels. Whether you're training for your first 5K or trying to qualify for the Boston Marathon, this tool helps you figure out the precise metrics you need.

Modes Overview

Our calculator operates on a simple equation: Time = Pace × Distance. Because of this, if you know any two variables, the calculator can find the third. You can switch between three primary modes:

Pro Tip

The calculator automatically saves your inputs to your browser's local storage. This means if you accidentally close the tab or come back tomorrow, your last calculation will still be there!

Understanding Splits

When you perform any calculation, a Splits Table is generated automatically at the bottom.

Splits break your total run down into individual segments (1 kilometer or 1 mile at a time). It displays two crucial pieces of information for each segment:

  1. Split Time: How long it takes to complete that specific segment.
  2. Elapsed Time: Your total running time up to that point.

You can toggle the splits table between kilometers and miles using the buttons in the top right of the table. You can also quickly copy your splits to your clipboard to paste them into your training log or send them to your coach.

Common Race Distances

For quick reference, here are the distances of standard events you can select in the dropdown menu:

Event Kilometers Miles
1500m 1.5 km 0.93 mi
1 Mile 1.609 km 1.0 mi
5K 5.0 km 3.1 mi
10K 10.0 km 6.2 mi
Half Marathon 21.0975 km 13.1 mi
Marathon 42.195 km 26.2 mi
